This is Mr Tan and his mother paying respect and making the offerings to the kiln god on Sunday Morning before the stokehole firing begin. The kiln god is said to protect the kiln firing from the evil spirits and it is a traditional custom passed down through many generations of oriental potters. Ah Mah, as she is affectionately called, is in her late 70s who enjoys playing mahjong with her friends. Before the major renovation, Ah Mah used to work alongside with us in the old workshop sculpting her favourite lohan fish sculpture or figuring of China’s first astronaut Yang Liwei wearing space suit. You can still find her work in one of the display cabinets at the Pottery Jungle.
